Educational Qualification
Given the research-intensive nature of the JRF role, candidates must possess specialized postgraduate qualifications. The eligibility criteria outline two distinct academic pathways:
- For Engineering and Technology Graduates: You must have an M.E / M.Tech / M.Sc (Engg.) or an equivalent postgraduate degree in the First Class. This must be backed by a minimum aggregate score of 60% or a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.5 out of 10.
- For Science Graduates: If your highest degree is an M.Sc, you must also achieve a First Class, but the minimum requirements are slightly higher: a minimum aggregate of 65% or a CGPA of 6.84 out of 10.
Critically, for both of these pathways, the candidate is required to have qualified through a recognized national-level examination. This includes:
Or any equivalent national examination.
- CSIR-UGC-NET (The National Eligibility Test)
- GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
Age Limit
The maximum age for eligibility is calculated as of the closing date of the application period, which is 14.12.2025.
- The maximum age limit for a general category candidate is 28 years.
However, the institute adheres to the Government of India’s regulations regarding age relaxation for reserved categories, which provides extended opportunities for certain candidates:

- Junior Research Fellow (JRF) Stipend: ₹37,000 per month.
- Senior Research Fellow (SRF) Upgrade: Based on satisfactory performance and a formal review after two years of service, the JRF position may be upgraded to a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) with a revised monthly stipend of ₹42,000.
- Additional Benefits: Fellows are eligible for House Rent Allowance (HRA), provided that hostel accommodation is not offered or utilized. They also receive medical benefits permissible under the institute’s rules and access to subsidized canteen facilities.

Selection Process
The path to becoming a Junior Research Fellow at IIRS is a multi-step process, beginning with application scrutiny and culminating in a personal interview.

Candidates are required to undergo a document verification process just before the interview, where they must present the original copies of all uploaded documents.
- Final Selection: The final decision on selection will be based on the candidate’s performance in the interview.
