Educational Qualification

Degree Engineering Apprentice

  • For Degree Electrical, candidates must have a BE or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • For Degree IT, candidates must have a BE or B.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent.
  • For Degree Telecom, candidates must have a BE or B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering or equivalent.

Diploma Technician Apprentice

  • For Diploma Electrical, candidates need a Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • For Diploma Civil, candidates need a Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • For Diploma Telecom, candidates need a Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.

Degree Non Engineering Apprentice

  • For Human Resources, candidates need an MBA in HR, MSW, PG Degree in Personnel Management, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations or equivalent.
  • For Finance, candidates need M.Com in Finance or Accounts from a recognised University or Institution, or B.Com with Intermediate in CMA from ICAI or equivalent.
  • For Law, candidates need LLM, LLB or equivalent.
  • The notification also states that for Non Engineering Apprentices, graduation in non engineering disciplines such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA or equivalent will be preferred.

ITI Trade Apprentice

  • For ITI Electrician, candidates need ITI in Electrician Trade or equivalent.
  • For ITI Electronic Mechanic, candidates need ITI in Electronics Mechanic Trade or equivalent.

Additional requirements include the ability to read and write Odia and working knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

LOCATION OF APPRENTICE TRAINING

Apprenticeship training will be provided at different units and offices of OPTCL spread across Odisha. Candidates should be aware that the notification does not promise a particular training location for every candidate. OPTCL will not provide accommodation or an allowance in place of accommodation at the training locations. Apprentices are also required to strictly follow the safety rules at their respective places of engagement.

    Salary Details

    The monthly stipend differs according to the apprenticeship type and is as follows:

    APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PERIOD

    The apprenticeship training period is one year, that is 12 months.

    The training period will begin from the online contract date of apprenticeship training and continue for one year. Apprentices will be entitled to stipend from the beginning of the online contract date, subject to satisfactory performance during the training period.

    An important point for candidates is that completion of apprenticeship does not guarantee a job with OPTCL. The notification specifically states that OPTCL is not obligated to offer employment to an apprentice after completion of training, and an apprentice cannot claim a right to employment merely because the apprenticeship has been completed.

    Selection Process

    The notification states that selection will be based on Academic Merit, Written Test or Interview as required.

    This means the recruitment may use academic merit, a written test or an interview as required for the apprenticeship engagement. The notification does not provide a detailed stage wise selection procedure for each individual discipline.It also states that the management’s decision will be final and binding regarding eligibility, acceptance or rejection of applications, mode of selection and cancellation of the selection process.OPTCL further states that filling the seats is at the discretion of management based on the suitability of candidates. If some seats remain vacant because of unsuitability or an insufficient number of candidates, no claim will be entertained.

    Candidates applying for Degree Engineering, Diploma Engineering and Degree Non Engineering Apprentices must register themselves on the NATS 2.0 portal.
